About FiledRates
Published
FiledRates reports homeowners insurance rate filings: the requests insurers send to state insurance regulators to raise or lower what they charge. For each filing we track, we report who filed it, how large a change was requested, what the regulator decided, when the new rates take effect, and where the original documents can be found.
Who runs FiledRates
FiledRates is edited by C. Zakarian, who holds a PhD in data science. The editor is responsible for what we publish, reviews filing reports against their source documents before publication, and handles corrections.
What we cover
We track homeowners insurance rate filings in Florida, Texas, California, New York, and Oklahoma. Their regulators review homeowners rates in different ways, and each state's process is described on our states page.
Every filing report links to the documents it is based on, such as regulator orders, rate decisions, and the filings themselves. Numbers we cannot confirm in a source document are left blank rather than estimated.
Independence
FiledRates is independent. It is not affiliated with any insurance company, agent, broker, or state regulator, and it does not sell insurance, collect leads, or take payment to cover or omit a filing. We do not tell readers which insurer to choose. We report what was filed and what happened to it.
How FiledRates is funded
FiledRates does not currently carry advertising. We plan to support the site with advertising. Advertisers will have no influence over which filings we cover or how we report them, and ads will always be labeled.
How we work
Our methodology explains where the data comes from and how each report is checked. Our editorial policy describes our standards for sourcing, attribution, and independence. Errors are fixed openly and listed on the corrections page.
